About Judge Boyce

Judge Boyce served seven years in the Bonneville County Prosecutor’s Office, including as Chief Deputy, and later spent more than a decade as a solo practitioner focused on real‑estate litigation and mortgage foreclosure work. He continued his real‑estate practice with Smith & Banks and later with Hawley Troxell following the firms’ merger. For 14 consecutive years, he also served as a CJA‑appointed conflict public defender in federal criminal cases, giving him a rare breadth of experience on both sides of the justice system.Judge Boyce currently serves as the Administrative District Judge for the Seventh Judicial District and chairs the Seventh Judicial District Magistrate Commission. He also presides over two juvenile drug courts, reflecting his commitment to accountability and rehabilitation for young people.

Career Background

His professional leadership includes serving as President of the Eagle Rock Inns of Court, Chair of the Idaho State Bar Real Estate Section, and presenter of continuing legal education programs for Idaho attorneys.In 2017, Judge Boyce was appointed Bonneville County Magistrate Judge. In 2019, Governor Brad Little appointed him District Judge from a highly qualified field of candidates. He has since presided over cases in Madison, Teton, and Fremont Counties, including two of the longest criminal trials in Idaho history. In 2024, the Idaho Supreme Court honored him with the George C. Granata Award for his commitment to fairness, efficiency, and public trust in the courts.
